Jobs Report? Just ask a Recruiter
Friday, September 14, 2007 at 07:41AM In today's blog zone part of stl.today.com, David Nicklaus writes Watch for bias in jobs stores. David references statistics that say there is a bias toward types of reporting by the national media. Specifically, the unemployment numbers.
Granted, the IT recruiting/staffing industry it doesn't directly tie in line with reports I've noticed, but I do think there is correlation to the money IT departments are spending and the health of a company. Other then required upgrades like Y2K and HIPPA, companies spend more new software and hardware when times are good. There is a ripple effect that translates into more staffing needs, which makes our phones ring with new job requirements.
If reporters really wanted a better gauge of the health of our economy, they should go directly to a recruiter. That would probably include the health of a individual company or segment of an industry too.
