Poor response from your voice messages?
Friday, September 26, 2008 at 07:34AM I travel, so I have a number of voice messages when I finally return to my desk. It's amazing the number of messages from "professional" sales/recruiting folks that are pure junk. Have you ever listened to your standard message when you cold call someone and are trying to get a response?
Keep in mind you are trying to contact someone, that by the very fact you didn't catch them or they didn't answer their phones, are VERY busy.
1) SPEAK SLOWLY - This is not a race, the faster you speak, he harder it is to hear and understand.
2) KEEP THE MESSAGE TO THE POINT AND SHORT - Tell them your name, why you are calling them and your phone number. Remember to include the area code and your time zone.
3) GIVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS - Sometimes when I'm really busy, I can still knock out a few email responses to voice mail.
Practice a few different messages, record them and have someone else pick which one sounds the best. The reason you have so few call backs could easily fixed if you follow these simple fixes.
