I started this blog as an open forum for recruiters to exchange their ideas and  feelings to better our profession.  Please feel free to respond to any of my ranting or open up new topics for discussion.  At all times these thoughts must be presented in a professional manner that encourages participation and are a credit to our industry.

I also encourage candidates for employment to ask questions or state problems they have had with recruiters in the past.  Your input is vital to our success.  After all, you need to be just as happy about your new (or future) employment for your continued usage of our services.

I ask you to identify yourself but I will withhold identification posted if requested.

I reserve the right to not post or edit content to adhere to the above standards of conduct.

Has Recruiting Changed?

I've heard this discussion many times before at seminars, and in meetings of top executives at major corporations. There is an article on ERE by Kevin Wheeler, titled Re-engineering the Recruiting Function.  The tools have definitely changed.  I'm really excited about some of the new ATS tools out there, options for sourcing have exploded with the socials networking options, off-shore companies are really improving their working methods with on-shore providers and recruiter training has never been better.  BUT, the basics are still the same.

1) Find a name 2) Contact the candidate 3) Discover their skills 4) Build a relationship 5) Submit/sell candidate to client 6) Close both sides

I think Kevin does a good job of bringing together a few points.  Simplify, focus/prioritize, leverage technology and stay in contact with the talent community.  (This contact can help with referrals and screening)   His point about candidate control can be debated, but getting the candidate involved and having commitment is important.
