I started this blog as an open forum for recruiters to exchange their ideas and  feelings to better our profession.  Please feel free to respond to any of my ranting or open up new topics for discussion.  At all times these thoughts must be presented in a professional manner that encourages participation and are a credit to our industry.

I also encourage candidates for employment to ask questions or state problems they have had with recruiters in the past.  Your input is vital to our success.  After all, you need to be just as happy about your new (or future) employment for your continued usage of our services.

I ask you to identify yourself but I will withhold identification posted if requested.

I reserve the right to not post or edit content to adhere to the above standards of conduct.

Independent Recruiters Here to Stay

As I've mentioned in previous articles, I believe independent recruiters are a vital part of our industry.  I recently wrote about new market changes concerning RPO (Recruiting Process Outsourcing) and I got a good note from Ken Jenkins (omegasearch@gmail.com), an independent recruiter in St. Louis.

Ken brought up an excellent point about speciality recruiting RPO does not replace or even fit into the services that an independent recruiter provides.  RPO is a high volume recruiting front end attachment to a corporation.  It doesn't fit the targeted and confidential recruiting of management or occasional technical talent.

What makes a good independent recruiter is that they are good at both Sales and good at Recruiting top talent.  Many times, they start with a good candidate, and then find them a job.  Most staffing firms, start with the job order, then find the candidate.

I actually believe the best RPO operations incorporate independents into their sourcing resource pipeline.

Don't worry Ken, independents will ALWAYS have more work then they can handle!
