I started this blog as an open forum for IT Staffing industry professionals to exchange their ideas and  feelings to better our profession.  Please feel free to respond to any of my ranting or open up new topics for discussion.  At all times these thoughts must be presented in a professional manner that encourages participation and are a credit to our industry.

I also encourage candidates for employment to ask questions or state problems they have had with recruiters in the past.  Your input is vital to our success.  After all, you need to be just as happy about your new (or future) employment for your continued usage of our services.

I ask you to identify yourself but I will withhold identification posted if requested.

I reserve the right to not post or edit content to adhere to the above standards of conduct.

Recruiting Outside the Box

So what's outside the box???? It's  what ever you've been most successful at, you change.  "How stupid it that, you say...I've got to quit reading this mellon-head!".

In the MSNBC article, Job perks galore for twentysomethings Eve Tahmincioglu discusses the challenges of recruiting Gen-Y'ers.  What stands out to me is her focus on knowing what appeals to the age group you're trying to recruit.  Do you ask those questions of your client?  Not only must you know the skills required, but what about the age group they want?  That may not be "PC" but the reality is, you must know who is the best  fit.  That may be age, it may be just the knowledge that that age group holds.

Read this article.  Then look at the requirements your trying to fill and see if you've been missing your target market.  See if you've been stuck in the old same box of thinking  too much for your candidates.
