Splits - Good for Business?
Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 06:54AM Had a situation this week that another recruiter from a government partner company, called me with a candidate for one of my posted requirements. Normally, I wouldn't have thought twice and accepted the candidate and split the fee with them. But, this requirement was already a split situation from an out of town staffing company that ask me for help. The initial fee wasn't top dollar to start with. Now, I'm discussing splitting at 50-50 by another 50-50. So now I'm down to a 6.5% fee. Is that worth it??
I know you independent guys would immediately, not walk away, but run away as fast as you could. But, let's look closer. What do I really have to do, besides broker the deal between companies and assure the candidate is qualified? How much work is really involved overall? Is it a job, that is really good for the candidate, and will further their career? I think you can see where I'm going with this.
If you really only need to put "a split of a split" amount of resources into the deal, DO IT! That's the key in many situations in this industry that the really successful recruiters learn. Each deal is different and don't get caught up in your "standards" so tightly that you pass up the small deals too.
